Lackluster Joshua Buatsi Defeats Zach Parker in Manchester

British light-heavyweight Buatsi secured a victory yet disappointing start to life under recent management with a decision win over Parker in the Manchester arena.

The Olympic bronze medallist's punch output appeared to earn him a judges' verdict in a close ten-round bout at the Co-op Live Arena.

But Parker had his moments, delivering effective individual punches in a fight where the techniques never quite clicked, with excessive holding disrupting the fight.

The officials scored it 96-94 to Buatsi, with the final judge a even score.

"It wasn't my finest showing but how do champions respond? They prevail," Buatsi commented in the ringside as he was met by negative reactions from the crowd.

The Londoner got back to winning after his maiden career setback - an epic battle with his previous opponent in last winter - to secure a 20th pro success.

Several boxing experts thought the challenger, thirty-one, should have been awarded the decision but the British boxer suffered the second loss of his 28-bout professional journey.

The Champion Claims Win in Slow Match

The fighter's advancement has slowed in the past few years through contract problems and considerable time of inactivity.

Once tipped as the future of British boxing, he now is positioned trying to fulfil that early promise - maybe in what feels like a ultimate opportunity - under recent support.

He started carefully, with the two boxers ready to be aggressive in a calculated opening few rounds.

The challenger, whose single earlier setback came at super-middleweight against his former opponent in two years ago after suffering a hand injury mid-fight, was making just his second bout at light heavyweight.

By the halfway stage, the underdog had stayed in contention, creating difficulties for Buatsi, who worked behind a solid defense to narrowly win the more effective periods.

The spectators' acceptance diminished amid constant clinching, with the challenger falling to the floor various instances during close exchanges.

Parker finished the stronger, but multiple periods were challenging to assess. However, former world champion Carl Frampton - working with Dazn - had it particularly wide for Parker, scoring for Buatsi just one round.

Buatsi advances, but with the presence of power puncher Benavidez, and Russian star Dmitry Bivol leading the category, the road to world glory - judging by this showing - still looks steep.

Hatton Tribute Inspires Manchester Derby Contest

In the secondary fight, Arthur overcame Bradley Rea by close verdict in a excellent Manchester vs Manchester fight to capture the European light-heavyweight belt.

The arena fell silent for a deeply poignant memorial prior to the bout as 10 bells sounded in remembrance of the city's native Hatton, who died at age 46 in last month.

It was the premier televised match card in the urban center since the passing of Hatton. As the last bell faded, the stillness gave way to a roar of "only one Ricky Hatton".

The competition during the bout reflected the feeling. The eventual winner was sent to the canvas by a significant blow flush on the jaw in the second round, rising shakily to his footing on the referee's count.

But the red-colored equipment of Arthur soon pressed ahead again. On the opposite side, Rea - in rival City blue - was injured early, significant bruising appearing under his face as the pair exchanged hard punches.

The challenger, twenty-seven, landed power punches but the champion, thirty-four, responded in kind with stinging uppercuts as the pace hardly diminished over 12 rounds.

The victor edged the decision with judges scorecards of 114-114, close margin and clearer margin, but each competitor were persistent and courageous, exactly what their idol the legend represented.
