Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, demons, and dark forces growing in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of characters who will separate from the primary party to begin their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to kill the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as important members in the powerful family could enable the party enter locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can anticipate learning which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
